  • How is Coaching different from Therapy?
David Lawrence Coaching specializes in ADHD & Executive Function coaching, designed to help individuals develop specific skills and achieve their personal and professional goals. While both coaching and therapy aim to assist individuals in improving their lives, they differ in several key ways: 1. Focus: Therapy primarily addresses mental health issues and emotional healing, often delving into past experiences to understand present behavior. Coaching, on the other hand, is future-oriented and goal-driven, concentrating on identifying actionable steps and developing strategies to reach specific objectives. 2. Approach: Therapists are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders, using therapeutic techniques to help clients manage or overcome psychological challenges. Coaches do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions; instead, they work with clients to enhance their organizational, time-management, and decision-making skills, particularly those impacted by ADHD and executive function challenges. 3. Client Relationship: The relationship between a therapist and a client can be more clinical, often following a structured treatment plan. Coaching fosters a collaborative partnership between the coach and the client, with the coach serving as a motivator, strategist, and accountability partner. As a coach, I am dedicated to empowering clients to unlock their potential by focusing on their strengths and creating a clear path to achieve their aspirations. If you're looking for structured support to manage ADHD symptoms or improve executive function, coaching might be the right fit for you. Many clients see multiple professionals for support, including psychiatrists, therapists, coaches, and tutors. Each has a particular expertise and focus. If you have additional questions on the differences between coaching and therapy, let's talk! The best way to learn more about coaching is through a free, no-obligation Discovery Session.
  • How is Coaching different from Consulting or Mentoring?
My approach to ADHD & Executive Function coaching is distinctly different from consulting or mentoring. Coaching focuses on empowering individuals to develop their own strategies and solutions through guided self-discovery and skill-building. Unlike consulting, where an expert provides specific advice and solutions, I collaborate with clients to enhance their intrinsic abilities to manage ADHD and executive function challenges. Similarly, while mentoring involves a more experienced person guiding someone's career or personal development based on their own experiences, coaching is a client-centered process. Through coaching, I facilitate the client’s personal growth and help them to identify and achieve their goals through structured support and accountability. This distinction ensures that the improvements and strategies developed are sustainable, personalized, and deeply rooted in the client’s own capabilities and aspirations.
